A Cleaner FalconBoard Debuts Overseas

By now I am sure most of you in the packaging/display world have heard of Falconboard.  Made by the company Hexacomb (headquartered just outside of Chicago in Buffalo Grove, IL) – “Falconboard is an environmentally-responsible alternative to foam and expanded polystyrene materials because it is made primarily from kraft paper, which is made with a renewable forest resource.”

This stuff is popping up everywhere domestically – mostly used in graphic displays and temporary kiosks/furniture applications-  it has a Brown core but bleached white faces on both sides – excellent for printing and router cutting graphics.

Just this week Hexacomb dropped a bomb on the foreign markets.  All White falconboard.  Instead of brown/kraft core – the new edition to the falconboard family features a solid white core.  This opens up the applications for Falconboard even more – as it has a much “cleaner” look for retail spaces.

Here is a press release from the Hexacomb Team – as well as a picture of the new material.  Pretty cool!  Stay tuned – It shouldn’t take long to make its way to the US Markets.

Hexacomb Corporation, a leading manufacturer of paper-based protective packaging and graphic display boards, is making its FALCONBOARD® Print All White display board available to the European marketplace.

Ideal for demanding wide-format, digital printing applications, the rigid structure is an “all white” version of the company’s original Falconboard Print and features a solid bleached sulphate white core and liner. (The original version has a white clay-coated kraft liner and testliner paper core.)

Falconboard’s paper-based construction also offers multiple advantages over petroleum-based (polyethylene, polystyrene or polyvinyl chloride) foam boards. For example, it often contains recycled fibers which offer a preferred environmental profile. Also, paper-based structures typically can be easily recycled locally, minimizing landfill impact.

Falconboard Print All White addresses demand for higher-end interior signage, two-dimensional displays, point-of-purchase applications and more, for customers who prefer a clean white edge. This white core helps support visual appeal and graphic presentation.

It is an ideal replacement for interior signage where foam or other petroleum-based boards are currently being used. Additionally, Falconboard Print All White has met B3 flammability test standards according to DIN 4102-1 (equal to the Euroclass F).

Its unique structure can handle the most demanding of graphic display applications due to its high rigidity and dimensional stability. The display board accommodates most inks and adhesives, as well as commercial connective systems such as edge tape and plastic or metal edging/channels. It is lightweight and heat-resistant up to 80 degrees Celsius. Its tough core resists denting and its durable construction is scratch and warp resistant.

Falconboard All White Print is available in 1220 x 2440 mm and 1400 x 3050 mm sizes, and thicknesses of 10 or 16 mm.
